Paris Saint Germain (PSG) star Lionel Messi is set to return to the pitch during the French Ligue 1 clash with Reims this weekend after the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner returned to training this week after recovering from Covid-19.

Lionel Messi contacted the virus earlier this year and that made him miss all the three PSG matches in all competitions this year. The Argentine attacking talent missed the French Cup round of 32 win over lower league opposition and hosts Vannes before sitting out the league games at Lyon and against visitors Brest. Messi could have returned to action earlier in the colours of French giants PSG, but the former Barcelona skipper took longer than expected to recover from the virus to the extent that he had to give an update on the virus via his Instagram account.
PSG manager Mauricio Pochettinowill welcome Lionel Messi back to his squad when PSG take on Reims at home in the league. Messi would be hoping to add to his one goal tally in the league this season when PSG play hosts to Reims at the Parc des Princes on Sunday.
Lionel Messi has a return of one goal and four assists in 11 league appearances on the back of his free transfer move to the club at the start of the season. While the petite Argentine has struggled for goals in the French top flight, he has continued to score goals in the Champions League. He has five goals in five Champions League matches this term ahead of the round of 16 tie with Spanish La Liga leaders Real Madrid next month. The first leg takes place at the Parc des Princes in February before the return leg at the Estadio Santiago Bernebeu in March. In total, Messi has six goals and four assists in just 16 games for PSG in all competitions.
